Chamber Announces Lucia Alarcon as the 2020 Jr. Carpinterian of the Year
Carpinteria CA – The Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce, from Goleta to Carpinteria proudly announced Lucia Alarcon from Carpinteria High School as the Jr. Carpinterian of the Year at an intimate gathering near the Carpinteria State Beach on Monday afternoon.The Jr. Carpinterian of the Year Scholarship finalists included Laura Flores – Carpinteria High School, and Luke Williams – Bishop Diego High School. “The Carpinteria Valley Chamber of Commerce began presenting this award to a selected Jr. Carpinterian in 1988 and we are thrilled to continue this long-standing tradition with our newly merged Chamber,” states Joyce Donaldson, COO and Carpinteria Liaison of the Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce. “The purpose of the award is to honor outstanding seniors for their leadership abilities and special contributions to their school, to Carpinteria and beyond. While academic standing is important, community and school involvement are usually the deciding factor”.
Congressman Salud Carbajal, 1st District Supervisor Das Williams, and Mayor Wade Nomura were among the elected officials on hand to congratulate the honorees with Resolutions and Certificates of Recognition.
Lucia Alarcon, 2020 Jr. Carpinterian of the Year, will receive a $4,000 scholarship and Laura Flores and Luke Williams will each receive $1,500 scholarships.
“The Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce is proud to bestow this support to these incredibly deserving students,” said Kristen Miller, President and CEO of the Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce. “This past year we have seen such hardship due to the Pandemic and this celebration of these students’ accomplishment is a shining light for the bright future ahead.”
The Chamber will also honor the students at the 63rd Carpinteria Community Awards event on Saturday, October 23rd at Pacifica Graduate Institute (pre-pandemic the Awards Gala was held in January each year). The 2021 Community Awards Gala will honor the Carpinterian of The Year, Jr. Carpinterian of the Year, two Jr. Carpinterian Scholarship Finalists, two Teachers of the Year, Volunteer of the Year, and the Ambassador of the year.
The Jr. Carpinterian of the Year Scholarship application was made available to any graduating senior currently resides in the Carpinteria Valley.
