Barry Dorsey

General Manager | The Leta

Be A Team Player

As a high schooler, Barry Dorsey’s first job was washing dishes at a Holiday Inn near his home in Baltimore. He discovered a familiar team atmosphere in the kitchen, like the one he enjoyed on the football field and basketball court. The camaraderie and positive environment appealed to him, and he decided to pursue a hospitality career.

Barry enrolled in a collegiate hotel and restaurant management program but left after a few years because the opportunities for advancement continued to roll in. He found himself exploring the different aspects of the industry–food and beverage, housekeeping, and front office positions–in small and large properties around the world.

Now, as the General Manager of The Leta in Goleta, he appreciates the diverse positions available in hospitality for anyone with good old-fashioned values—hard work, respect, being a team player, humility, a good nature, and willingness to learn. These are the qualities he looks for in developing and equipping his staff to follow their dreams, whether or not they’re in the industry. The possibilities are endless—from the front office and housekeeping to marketing, maintenance, human resources, event management, and more.
