Leslie Brickell

Dual General Manager | Courtyard by Marriott

A fulfilling career with limitless opportunities

Leslie Brickell’s path to the hospitality industry began early, shaped by her upbringing as an expat. Growing up overseas, she traveled all over the world with her family and often stayed in hotels, which sparked her desire to pursue a career in hospitality. From a young age, Leslie knew that she wanted to work in an industry that allowed her to engage with people from all walks of life and create memorable experiences.

Leslie began her professional journey with an internship at the Courtyard by Marriott in Bakersfield, where she quickly became immersed in the hospitality industry. Throughout the years, she gained extensive experience in cities such as San Diego and Fresno, working in both Sales and Operations. Her deep understanding of these key disciplines, combined with her dedication and strong work ethic, ultimately paved the way for her to step into the role of General Manager about twenty years ago.

Thirteen years ago, Leslie made the move to Santa Barbara, a place she had always dreamed of calling home. Now, as General Manager of both the Courtyard by Marriott and Residence Inn, she is living that dream. Having raised her children in the area, Leslie now enjoys watching her grandson grow up on the beautiful Central Coast. For her, the role goes beyond overseeing hotel operations—it’s about being a passionate ambassador for a region she loves. She cherishes the opportunity to connect with diverse guests from around the world, helping them discover all that Santa Barbara has to offer, whether they’re visiting for leisure or relocating to the area.

One of the most rewarding aspects of Leslie’s career has been her role as a mentor. Several years ago, she was approached by Marriott’s Voyage Program, which offers recent college graduates the chance to gain hands-on experience across various hotel departments at a Marriott property. Through this program, Leslie has mentored numerous young professionals, helping them discover their strengths and guide their careers within the hospitality industry. Leslie’s leadership style is rooted in fostering a fun and supportive environment for her team. By promoting a culture of positivity and enjoyment, she has built a team that thrives personally and professionally. Her mentorship and guidance has cultivated an atmosphere where employees feel valued, motivated, and empowered.

For Leslie, the hospitality industry is far more than just a job—it’s a fulfilling career with limitless opportunities. She’s a shining example that a career in hospitality can provide not only professional growth but also the opportunity to live in a dream location, build meaningful connections with guests, and leave a lasting impact on colleagues.
