The Santa Barbara South Coast Chamber of Commerce Roadmap to Recovery series began during the pandemic and developed plans and action steps to help get businesses, large and small, reopened safely and focused on long-term recovery strategies. The series has included Roadmap to Recovery: The Road Home and The Road Home II.
In April 2025, the Chamber launched our Roadmap to Recovery: Power On.
The Santa Barbara South Coast is home to some of the world’s most innovative companies, prestigious research institutions, and dynamic industries, from advanced manufacturing to climate technology. But the economic engine that powers this region is being threatened by an unreliable and aging electrical grid.
Power On is the latest Roadmap to Recovery installment in the Chamber’s ongoing advocacy for business resilience, addressing one of the most urgent issues facing the South Coast economy: electricity reliability. This report outlines the causes, consequences, and solutions to the power problems that are stalling business operations, impeding growth, and risking our region’s competitive edge.
From case studies of local companies impacted by outages to a clear action plan for infrastructure upgrades, improved communication, and legislative reform, Power On is a call to collective action. Together—with public and private partners—we can spark change and secure a reliable energy future for our region.
