Tri-County Chamber Alliance 2021 Legislative Review

The Tri-County Chamber Alliance hosted the new President of the California Chamber of Commerce as the keynote speaker at its annual legislative review last Friday, December 3rd. The event was attended by Chambers of Commerce from across San Luis Obispo, Santa Barbara, and Ventura counties. Presentations opened with Fred Main, President of Clear Advocacy, who spoke on what to expect on the policy front moving into 2022, cautioning that next year may see an increase in policies of interest to the business community as Governor Newsom moves on from the recall election. Doug Johnson, President and CEO of the National Demographics Corporation, presented on how state and local redistricting will affect the tri-county area, highlighting that the proposed changes will likely not have a major effect on current state elected officials. Jennifer Barrera, President of CalChamber, closed the event by speaking on CalChamber’s policy work and priorities, touching on a variety of policy topics including the vaccine mandate, water conservation, water rights, energy, recycling, and privacy. Barrera ended her presentation by touching upon the important relationship between CalChamber and local chambers, and the strength of the chamber community when we work together to accomplish common goals.
