GOLETA SALES TAX ON THE NOVEMBER BALLOT

News2

The Goleta City Council voted 4-1 to place a 1% sales tax measure on the upcoming November ballot. To pass, the measure will require a 50 percent plus one majority of Goleta voters. If passed the sales tax is estimated to generate $10.6 million in revenue for the City of Goleta. The Chamber has raised concerns to City Council regarding the timing of the sales tax increase, as well as highlighted preferred spending priorities for a portion of the potential revenue. We have asked for commitments to visitor services, economic development programs, childcare assistance for the local workforce, investment in Old Town, and homelessness solutions. This request has been met with a mixed response from the Council. The Chamber will continue to consider a support or oppose position for the sales tax as the November election approaches.
