GOLETA CITY COUNCIL DEBATES THE FUTURE OF OLD TOWN

The Chamber offered support for the Hollister Avenue Old Town Interim Striping Project at the June 7th Goleta City Council meeting. The Interim Striping Project is a key first step in the long-term process of creating a walkable and inviting Old Town Goleta. The project would have reduced the 4 lanes of Hollister in Old Town, down to 2, and offered three different alternatives for parking, with staff recommending alternative 3. Alternative 3 would create 50 additional parking spaces in Old Town, while maximizing visibility and safety for bicyclists. After a detailed discussion the Council ultimately voted to put off making a decision on the project’s approval pending further community outreach and a more detailed presentation of the project scope. The Chamber will continue to follow this project and support the creation of a more pedestrian friendly Old Town Goleta.
